A proposal by a Member of Parliament to strengthen oversight of social media activity is being actively discussed in Kazakhstan. The initiative would introduce greater scrutiny of the products and services promoted online, the income generated from such activities and the nature of the content being advertised. The parliamentary inquiry aims to reduce harm caused by misleading advertising and proposes criminal liability for promoting financial pyramid schemes.
