Fraudulent call center shut down in Zhetysu: damage exceeded KZT 36 million

Police in the Zhetysu Region, under the coordination of the prosecutor’s office, stopped the activities of a criminal group that had organized a fraudulent call center. According to investigators, the scheme was organized by a 23-year-old resident of Almaty, who assigned specific roles to members of the group.

The fraudsters contacted victims through social media and Telegram. “Money mules” were used to transfer and withdraw stolen funds, while cash-out services helped conceal the traces of the crimes.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, 57 people were affected by the group’s activities. Some victims lost more than KZT 1 million, and the total damage exceeded KZT 36 million.

The criminal case has been sent to court. Police urged citizens not to trust suspicious calls and messages and to contact law enforcement immediately if they notice signs of fraud.
