Thailand's Electronic Transactions Commission (ETC) has introduced new measures to prevent technology-related crimes on social media.
Starting November 1, 2026, paid advertising on social media platforms will only be permitted after the advertiser's identity has been verified.
Social media platforms will be required to:
- verify advertisers' identities using an ID card, passport, company registration documents, or a digital identity system that complies with the Electronic Transactions Commission's requirements;
- collect and retain advertiser information from the start of the advertising service and for at least 90 days after the advertisement has ended.
The verification will remain valid for up to one year from the date of the most recent verification.
The new requirements are intended to improve the detection and restriction of fraudulent advertisements that pose a risk to internet users.
According to the regulation, these measures are expected to make it significantly more difficult to anonymously promote scams and suspicious projects on social media.
