Authorities in Kazakhstan's Karaganda Region plan to expand their wanted-person identification system by connecting residential video intercoms. A pilot project is already operating in two apartment complexes and may later be expanded across the region.
According to the regional Department of Digital Technologies, about 4,000 surveillance cameras are currently operating, with around 100 already integrated with the Ministry of Internal Affairs' wanted-person databases. Over the past year, the system identified 268 wanted individuals.
Officials state that the system does not continuously record video. Instead, it generates a digital facial template at the moment of detection and compares it with connected databases.
