The "Proportunity.kz" project attracted funds under the guise of "Islamic" investments and promised returns allegedly compliant with Sharia principles.
On June 26, 2024, StopPiramida.kz published an analysis of the project and warned about the associated risks.
Just two days later, the founder of the company sent a formal complaint demanding that the publication be removed and denying any signs of fraud.
Subsequently, AFSA and government authorities became involved, violations were identified, and the case was brought before the court.
By court verdict, Arman Gabitovich Bayev was found guilty of fraud on an especially large scale.
The court sentenced him to 6 years and 8 months of imprisonment and awarded compensation to 47 victims totaling more than 200 million tenge.
