Phone scams | Almaty woman lost 20 million tenge in a single day

A resident of Almaty lost 20 million tenge in just one day after receiving a series of scam calls.

The fraud began with a message about the supposed need to replace utility meters. Later, the scheme involved fake bank security officers and individuals posing as officers of the National Security Committee.

Under pressure and under the pretext of "protecting her money," the woman was persuaded to take actions that resulted in the loss of a substantial amount.
